The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2The San Francisco 49ers lost 29-20 to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday 25 October, their first defeat of the season, and fell to 6-1. Centre · 1The Falcons, who entered the Week 7 game at 2-4, outscored San Francisco 17-6 in the second half after the 49ers had led 14-12 at halftime, according to Newsweek. Centre · 1Atlanta also intercepted quarterback Brock Purdy twice, and Newsweek described it as a day of multiple turnovers for the 49ers.

Centre · 1With 47 seconds left and San Francisco trailing 29-20, Kittle caught a pass from Purdy and gained about 22 yards, then fumbled while being tackled, ending the comeback attempt; Newsweek said Kittle was tripped while avoiding a defender. Centre · 2The 49ers played without wide receivers Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and Mike Evans (Achilles and ribs), both of whom CNA says are expected back in Week Nine. Centre · 1After the game Kittle told reporters that a loss makes everybody "look at yourself in the mirror" and would "light a even .... spark a bigger fire underneath us", adding that it would sour the bye week.

Centre · 1In a Zoom interview with Reuters on Monday, carried by CNA, Kittle said the team would spend the break "sitting there angry" rather than relaxing, which Kittle thought would be good for the team. Centre · 1Kittle said the team has effectively lost all its training-camp receivers to injury, but is encouraged by contributions from younger players and said the team does not have to win "on the shoulders of Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffrey, or Nick Bosa and Fred Warner." Centre · 1Kittle also said the injuries are partly a consequence of the team's physical style, which Kittle would not change, and pointed to 2021, when the 49ers started 2-4 and went on to reach the NFC Championship Game.

Centre · 1Kittle said an Achilles injury consumed most of the offseason, leaving 'a lot of rust early on', though Kittle said feeling closer to full condition over the past two weeks. Centre · 1San Francisco still leads the NFC West, and its next game is against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday 8 November after the bye; the Minnesota Vikings (6-0) and Kansas City Chiefs (5-0 before their Sunday night game) were the only other unbeaten teams, per Newsweek.

Framing
Newsweek led with Kittle's late fumble as the costly moment, then with the contrast between that mistake and Kittle's upbeat reaction. CNA, running a Reuters interview, centred on Kittle's own account: motivation, injuries, the physical style of play and rehabilitation.
Emphasis
Newsweek stressed the fumble, the turnovers and the irony of the fumble coming on National Tight Ends Day, while arguing there is no reason to panic. CNA stressed Kittle's comments on depth, injuries and a campaign with Novartis on prostate-cancer awareness.
Leaves out or plays down
Newsweek does not give Kittle's longer reflections on injuries or the offseason Achilles rehabilitation. CNA says little about how the game unfolded or the fumble.
Charged language
“Costly Mistake”“Unexpected Take”“wake-up call”
For example
“A costly mistake on a day filled with multiple turnovers for the 49ers.” — Newsweek
“Kittle's response is especially surprising, considering he made a costly mistake in the fourth quarter.” — Newsweek
“We sit on violence, and that's the way that we think football should be played,” — CNA
