The story, neutrally told

Israeli actor and flight instructor Guy Kapulnik, 46, and his passenger Taylor Laska, 33, died when a light aircraft crashed in Southern California last Thursday. The Daily Mirror says the plane came down in a brush-covered field near Hesperia Airport in San Bernardino County, and that emergency services were called shortly before 10am local time. The New York Post says the aircraft crashed nose-down in a remote field on Thursday morning.

According to the Mirror, the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office identified Kapulnik, from Los Angeles, as the pilot and Laska, from Santa Monica, as the passenger. The aircraft was a single-engine Aeronca Champion owned by Midfield Aviation of Apple Valley. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, and the cause has not been disclosed.

Kapulnik appeared in Israeli films and television including Room 514, Salsa Tel Aviv, Watch Over Me and Lebanon, and lived in Los Angeles working as a flight instructor. The Post and Hindustan Times say he served in the Israeli military's 669 search and rescue unit and studied at the Technion and the Nissan Nativ Acting Studio. His family called him "a man of action, curiosity and adventure", and a memorial or funeral was set for Wednesday in Karmei Yosef.
