The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2John Gillick, head of consumer marketing and sponsorship at AIG Ireland for more than 20 years, is no longer working for the insurer after antisemitic posts appeared on his X account. Mixed · 2The Irish Times reported that posts on the account described Israel and Jews as "human scum" and Jewish people as "filthy dogs". Another post said "Jews in Ireland need to be thrown out. They are traitors and land thieves." Left · 1Members of the Jewish community in Ireland screenshotted the posts, which are no longer visible on the account.

Mixed · 2On 2 September the account posted that it had been compromised by unauthorised persons and that the antisemitic posts were not written, published or endorsed by Gillick. The post said the matter had been reported to law enforcement and the platform, and that he condemned the views expressed. Mixed · 2AIG opened an internal investigation. It initially said the posts were "fraudulently published following the unauthorised compromise of an employee's personal social media account", and that Gillick was complying and had reported the alleged hacking to An Garda Síochána. Mixed · 2In an email to the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland (JRCI) this week, AIG president and chief executive Eric Anderson (spelled Andersen by JNS) said Gillick is no longer with the company. He said AIG continues to co-operate with Gardaí and condemns discrimination and hate, including antisemitism.

Mixed · 2JRCI chair Orli Degani said she did not know the circumstances of the departure but welcomed AIG's investigation. She said the Jewish community was relieved and grateful that AIG took the complaint seriously. Left · 1The Irish Times said Gillick still listed himself as an AIG employee on LinkedIn and had been contacted for comment. The reasons for his departure have not been stated, and it is unclear whether the hacking claim has been verified.
