The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Screen Rant reported on 25 October that David Jonsson, who plays the android Andy in Alien: Romulus, said they had little to share about the planned direct sequel. Centre · 1Asked about reports that Ridley Scott was getting more involved and the script was moving, Jonsson said they had not got much more than the interviewer had said, adding that they did not want to downplay it. Centre · 1Jonsson said they loved Andy and the project, and hoped for a chance to "take it further".

Centre · 1Screen Rant says the Romulus sequel is confirmed to be in development, that rumours of its cancellation were debunked, and that Scott will produce it as he did Romulus. Centre · 1Fede Álvarez, who directed Romulus, is not returning to direct but will stay on as a producer; Screen Rant says the production is still looking for a director. Centre · 1Screen Rant also notes that Romulus earned an 80% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating and grossed $350.865 million worldwide.

Centre · 1Separately, Collider reported on 27 October, citing TheWrap, that a new Alien movie connected to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant is in development at 20th Century Studios, with Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) attached to write the screenplay. Centre · 1According to that report, Scott will produce through his Scott Free banner alongside Michael Pruss; whether Scott will direct is not yet known, and no release date has been announced. Centre · 2Screen Rant had already described the Prometheus-linked prequel as "reportedly in development" with Guzikowski attached, and Collider notes it would pick up the unresolved ending of Covenant, in which the android David takes control of the colony ship.

Centre · 2Both outlets place the news amid a broader Alien revival that includes Romulus and the TV series Alien: Earth, which Screen Rant says has been renewed for a second season.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Emphasis
Screen Rant stresses franchise history, Romulus's reception and the director search; Collider stresses Scott's return to the unresolved Covenant story and fan frustration.
