The story, neutrally told

Alison Hammond left the live This Morning broadcast on Friday 2 October and did not return for the rest of the show. She went during a segment with the show's vet, Dr Scott Miller; the Daily Express says she was heard being taken out of the studio during a viewer phone-in, and the Evening Standard says she left after a segment about pets. The Daily Mail reports she was seen clutching her chest before co-host Dermot O'Leary hurried her away from the sofa, and that a loud retch was heard in the background while Dr Scott tried to carry on.

After an ad break, O'Leary told viewers that Hammond was feeling a little unwell and had had to "duck out". He later said she would not be returning, adding: "Ali's feeling a little unwell so I'll be here for the rest of the show." All three outlets said they had contacted ITV for comment, and none reported a statement from ITV or Hammond's representatives or a specific cause beyond O'Leary's words.

The Independent, which leans left, reported the same words from O'Leary, who also said "Hopefully she'll be back", and said Hammond's representatives and ITV had been contacted for comment. Viewers posted messages of concern on social media, with one quoted by the Daily Mail calling the moment "Frightening". Hammond has co-hosted This Morning since 2021 and also presents The Great British Bake Off with Noel Fielding; the Daily Mail notes she returned to screens this week with the new series, alongside new judge Nigella Lawson.

The Independent and the Evening Standard give O'Leary's age as 53 and Hammond's as 51, and note she first appeared on This Morning in 2003. The Independent adds that Bake Off's next episode, Audience Choice Week, is due on Tuesday 6 October, and that she had spoken the previous Friday (25 September) on the show about her relationship with her ex-partner, the father of her son Aidan.
