Centre · 1India's Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said all 24 Indian seafarers aboard two vessels hit in separate incidents in the Strait of Hormuz and Romania were safe, with no casualties or injuries reported. Centre · 2The crude oil tanker MT ST 3, carrying 15 Indian crew, was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday 16 October, according to Sonowal. Centre · 1Sonowal said in a post on X that authorities were continuously monitoring both situations and remained in close contact with the ship management companies to ensure the crew's security and wellbeing. Centre · 1On Thursday the Singapore-registered container ship GFS Pride caught fire and sank in the strait after being hit by an unidentified projectile; all 21 crew were evacuated safely, Singapore's maritime authority said.

Centre · 1The National described the incidents as showing how the US-Iran war has raised risks to shipping in Hormuz, saying attacks have surged to a record high with at least two ships sunk; it attributed the strikes to Iran and said the Revolutionary Guard has used drones, missiles and sea mines. The report did not say who was responsible for the MT ST 3 or YARA J incidents.
