The story, neutrally told

Amazon has renewed the Reacher spinoff Neagley for a second season. Amazon said the first season reached 40 million viewers in its first 13 days and is the fourth most-watched series debut in Prime Video history. Variety noted that Amazon does not define how it calculates viewership, and reported that 52% of the audience was international; Deadline said more than half was international, particularly in the UK, Germany and Brazil.

Screen Rant, citing Prime Video, also reported that the biggest international audiences were in the U.K., Germany and Brazil, and said the show scored 94% "Certified Fresh" from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The series debuted on Prime Video on Sept. 16, the same day as the Reacher season 4 finale, with all eight episodes released at once rather than weekly as Reacher is. The renewal follows days after Reacher was renewed for season 6, while season 5 is still in production.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said audiences had embraced Frances Neagley and praised star Maria Sten and showrunners Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton. Season 1 follows Neagley, a Chicago private investigator and former Army protégé of Jack Reacher, who seeks justice after a friend dies in a suspicious accident; Alan Ritchson guest stars as Reacher, and Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios produce. TVLine first ran the news by crediting Variety's report and said it had asked Prime Video for confirmation; it noted that Neagley, played by Maria Sten, debuted in Reacher season 1 and that the Reacher season 3 finale set up the spinoff.

Screen Rant said the open questions for season 2 are whether Prime Video will again release all episodes at once and how closely the story will tie in with Reacher.
