The story, neutrally told

Prime Video has set 10 February 2027 as the premiere date for Barbershop, a comedy series inspired by the film franchise. The streamer announced the date alongside two first-look images of the cast. Deadline says the series will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

Jermaine Fowler plays Travis "Trav" Walker, who returns to Chicago hoping to honour his grandfather's legacy at Calvin's barbershop, only to find the shop and the city changed. The cast includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman, with guest stars including Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Ziwe and Tituss Burgess. Marshall Todd, co-writer of the original film, and Max Searle are showrunners; executive producers include Kevin Hart, and Oz Rodriguez also directs.

Variety notes this is the second Barbershop TV series, after a Showtime sitcom starring Omar Gooding that lasted one season. The films began with Barbershop in 2002, followed by sequels in 2004 and 2016 and the 2005 spinoff Beauty Shop; the outlets give different worldwide box office totals.
