The story, neutrally told

Left · 2AMC Theatres has unveiled two collectible popcorn buckets for "Dune: Part Three": a Sandworm Thumper Collectible and a Double Sandworm Collectible. Left · 1The Thumper bucket has a "working Thumper design", a reference to the device the Fremen use to pound desert sand and attract sandworms, while the Double Sandworm features two Shai-Hulud, "making it easier to share popcorn", according to AMC's press release. Left · 2The designs follow the bucket for "Dune: Part Two" in 2024, which went viral over its suggestive look, was the subject of countless memes and was mocked in a Saturday Night Live sketch.

Left · 1Hank Green, AMC's senior vice president of food and beverage, said the company knew fans would have high expectations and aimed to exceed them, with designs "straight from the movie". Left · 2Prices have not been announced; Variety says they will come at a later date and Hollywood Reporter says closer to the Dec. 18 release. Part Two canisters cost $24.99 plus tax but resold for much more on sites such as eBay. Left · 2Both buckets come with a large popcorn and will be sold at AMC locations in the United States and at Odeon Cinemas in Europe, alongside other items including an Atreides-Fremen light-up cup, a spacing guild navigator cup, mystery keychains and a sandworm plush.

Left · 1The Hollywood Reporter notes that collectible buckets often sell for $25 to $50 and can significantly boost theatre revenue, and that Regal sold an $80 bucket for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" last year. It also reports that the Part Two bucket's creator, Marcus Gonzalez of the Zinc Group, told the Wall Street Journal that innuendo "was definitely not the intent". Left · 2"Dune: Part Three", directed by Denis Villeneuve, concludes the trilogy and opens on Dec. 18, the same day as "Avengers: Doomsday"; the Hollywood Reporter says advance sales are strong, with London's BFI IMAX sales beating a record set by "The Odyssey".
