The story, neutrally told

Anonymous Content said on 1 October 2026, at the Bloomberg Screentime conference, that it is developing a feature film based on Nicholas Boggs' book 'Baldwin: A Love Story', to be produced with Higher Ground. The company has commissioned Boggs and his partner, author Marlon James, to write the script. CEO Darren Walker, who was appointed in January after serving as president of the Ford Foundation, said the company wants to move away from a 'fee-for-hire' model and become a financier able to co-finance, finance or lead in financing films.

Walker said he is committed to a minimum of eight films over the next year, with more in following years. The company is backed by Laurene Powell Jobs' Emerson Collective, which made a 'material investment' in January; Deadline describes Emerson as majority owner. Jobs and former HBO chief Richard Plepler are joining a reconstituted board, which Deadline says is chaired by Michael Klein. Jobs said that putting quality first and money second leads to films people want to see, that the company is 'not in a rush' to get a return but must be self-sustaining, and that fee-for-service is 'a bad way to build a company'.

Walker said the company may also expand into live events including Broadway and possibly content creation, and would likely make some 'acquihires' while considering acquisitions if valuations make sense. Asked about Emerson's more than $1 billion in AI investment, Jobs said she saw no conflict with working with filmmakers opposed to AI, arguing it is better to be part of conversations about how models are trained. Deadline adds that Jobs said the company's founder Steve Golin left 'a beautiful vision' but that 'entropy set in' after his death seven years ago, followed by Covid and the Hollywood strikes, and that Steve Shikya was named COO in August.

The company's credits include True Detective, Mr. Robot and 13 Reasons Why, and it is co-producing the upcoming Netflix series East of Eden.
