The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Anthropic said on Wednesday 14 October that it would add official US voting information from the nonprofit Democracy Works to its Claude AI chatbot later this month, ahead of the November midterm elections. Centre · 1According to Hindustan Times, US users who ask Claude about voting procedures will get answers drawn from Democracy Works' database of state and local election sources, and the company also plans to add election results. Centre · 1Anthropic said its goal was to position Claude as a useful tool for political conversations while preventing election-related abuse.

Centre · 2The company said conversations touching broadly on politics, public policy or social issues make up about 5.75% of all US conversations on Claude.ai, its consumer app. Centre · 1Hindustan Times reports that the figure comes from an analysis of 250,000 US conversations, that election- or voting-specific conversations account for about 0.51%, and that requests for recommendations on how to vote were extremely rare, at 0.01%. Centre · 1Anthropic expects political and election-related queries to rise as Election Day approaches. Hindustan Times notes the company did not describe the feature as a tool for recommending candidates or telling users how to vote.

Centre · 1Hindustan Times places the move in the context of AI companies looking to make chatbots useful sources of news and public information, with the accuracy of their answers a concern in election periods. Its article carries Reuters inputs.
