The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Apple said on Friday 6 November that the App Store now has more than 100,000 apps built for the iPhone Duo, which has been on sale for two weeks. Mixed · 2Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said in a statement that "thousands of optimized apps are being added to the store each day" and that Apple expects the pace of updates to keep accelerating. Centre · 1TechCrunch reports the announcement was timed with the release of more than a dozen Duo-ready apps, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, Zoom, NBA and NHL apps, Etsy, LTK, Goodnotes, Extra and Halide Mark III. These join already-optimized apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Centre · 1Early reviews criticised the lack of optimized apps at launch. TechCrunch says non-optimized apps show a black bar at the side of the screen and sometimes hide key functions under an overflow menu. Centre · 1Apple said more than 2,000 developers attended over 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities worldwide, where they could work on their apps with the Duo and Apple's support. Mixed · 2Optimized apps can still have problems. The Verge notes that Instagram looked messy at launch despite a "Made for iPhone Duo" label, and that Instagram chief Adam Mosseri called the Duo a "bit of a tricky form factor". TechCrunch found Spotify, which is on Apple's list, still showing the black bar on its review unit, and said not all listed updates had rolled out.

Centre · 1The Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model. TechCrunch says it sold out within hours of orders opening and ship times now extend into next year. It adds that Apple said on its earnings call this week it is "hard to predict" when the supply constraints will improve.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
