The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Apple TV has acquired the Australian crime drama Dustfall, starring Anna Torv, as its latest international acquisition. Centre · 1Deadline, which called the story an exclusive, reported that Apple has taken worldwide rights except Australia, where the show airs on the ABC and launches in three days. It said Federation Studios is the seller. Mixed · 2Deadline also reported that the BBC in the UK and ZDF in Germany will launch the show soon and hold it for a year, so Apple will have to wait to offer it in those countries. The A.V. Club said the series will premiere on Apple TV in 2027, with Australian viewers watching on ABC and ABC iview from Sunday night.

Mixed · 2Torv plays seasoned detective Antigone "Tig" Pollard, who investigates a sexual assault case that darkens when a key suspect is found dead. The logline describes the series as a "propulsive, atmospheric tropic noir", and the A.V. Club adds that Tig must confront long-buried secrets from her own adolescence. Mixed · 2The cast includes Juliet Stevenson, Peter Fenton and Bert LaBonté, among many others. The series was written by Dianne Taylor and based on Vikki Petraitis's novel The Unbelieved. Emma Freeman directed, and Soapbox Pictures and Moonriver produced it. Centre · 1Deadline said Torv is also an executive producer, alongside Freeman and others. It added that the Dustfall deal fits Apple's growing appetite for international acquisitions, citing the earlier purchase of the British series Small Prophets.

Mixed · 2Dustfall will sit alongside Last Seen, Apple's first Australian original, which stars Patrick Brammall. The A.V. Club said the acquisition follows a successful run for Last Seen and that Dustfall appeared on The Hollywood Reporter's list of ten standout international series from this year's Series Mania.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
