The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Apple TV released the first official trailer for Way of the Warrior Kid on 27 October 2026, a military-themed film starring Chris Pratt. Centre · 2The film is based on Jocko Willink's novel of the same name, which Screen Rant dates to 2017. It follows Marc, a bullied middle-school boy, who turns for help to his uncle Jake, a Navy SEAL staying with the family. Pratt plays the uncle. Centre · 2Screen Rant names Jude Hill and Linda Cardellini as co-stars, while Collider names Cardellini and Parker Young.

Centre · 1Collider says McG directed the film from a script by Will Staples. Centre · 1According to Screen Rant, the trailer shows bullies throwing Marc's bike off a highway bridge and confronting him violently at a carnival. It also shows some of Jake's training and a harrowing event in which Marc gets to be a hero. Centre · 1Screen Rant says the trailer points to changes from the book: a tougher approach from Jake, an injury from a combat mission that he is still struggling to process, and a bus crash in which Marc appears to use his training to help others.

Centre · 1Screen Rant calls it Pratt's first live-action family-friendly film and his first project with Apple TV. It notes Willink has four other novels in the series, which could allow a franchise if the film succeeds. Centre · 1Collider places the film within Pratt's busy 2026, which includes Mercy, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the third season of The Terminal List. It adds that Pratt is expected, but not confirmed, to return as Star-Lord in Avengers: Doomsday on 18 December. Centre · 2The outlets disagree on the release date: Screen Rant gives a November 20 premiere, and Collider gives a November 25 streaming release.
