The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Maria Theresa Lazaro, the Philippines' foreign secretary and ASEAN's special envoy for Myanmar, was due to visit Naypyidaw on Wednesday 28 October and Thursday 29 October, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on 27 October. Centre · 1Sihasak said the itinerary "is being worked out" and that the timing lets Lazaro report back when ASEAN foreign ministers meet in Manila before the ASEAN Summit. Centre · 1On 28 October Lazaro arrived in Myanmar and led an ASEAN Monitoring Team mission to the AHA Centre in Taunggyi, southern Shan State, according to a statement from the Philippine Foreign Ministry posted on X, as reported by Anadolu Agency.

Centre · 1Representatives of ASEAN member states and Japan joined the mission, which distributed bags of rice and family and hygiene kits to internally displaced people; Lazaro was also to lead the symbolic handover of a religious building. Centre · 1CNA reported there was no immediate indication whether Lazaro would meet Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained since the 2021 military coup; the Philippines, the current ASEAN chair, had earlier requested "brief access" to her but was rebuffed. Centre · 1In August Aung San Suu Kyi met a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross, her first publicised meeting with a foreign official since her ouster, and the Philippines then called for her "complete and unconditional release".

Centre · 1Her son Kim Aris was allowed to speak to her by phone for the first time in more than five years; he said she sounded "fairly healthy" but that he remained "very concerned about her well-being". Centre · 1ASEAN has excluded Myanmar from high-level meetings since the coup, citing a lack of meaningful progress on its Five-Point Consensus, agreed in April 2021, which calls for an end to violence, dialogue, an envoy-led mediation, humanitarian aid via the AHA Centre and an envoy visit to meet all parties. Centre · 1Lazaro said in July she would visit Myanmar this year to expand access to humanitarian assistance.

Framing
Both outlets treat the visit as routine diplomacy: CNA places it within ASEAN's Myanmar policy and the Suu Kyi question, while Anadolu reports the humanitarian mission from the Philippine ministry's statement.
Emphasis
CNA: Five-Point Consensus, Suu Kyi access, Thai minister's remarks. Anadolu: aid distribution in Shan State.
Leaves out or plays down
Anadolu's account does not mention Suu Kyi, the coup or the Five-Point Consensus; CNA predates the visit and has no outcomes.
For example
“There was no immediate indication of whether she would meet with former democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi” — CNA
“The visit aims to support humanitarian assistance to affected and displaced communities in Myanmar.” — Anadolu Agency
