The story, neutrally told

Alan Cumming said in a SiriusXM interview that he does not fully understand the plot of Avengers: Doomsday. Cumming returns as Nightcrawler, a role first played in 2003's X2: X-Men United. The comment came when Cumming, who hosts The Traitors US, was asked whether that show had prepared them for Marvel's secrecy; Cumming said they were "absolutely terrified to say anything".

Cumming recalled that on one of the rare scenes shot on a back lot rather than in front of a blue screen, a crew member began explaining that giant robots were involved, and Cumming asked only where to point. Cumming also said they first met Florence Pugh at the recent Emmy awards, having shared a scene in which, they joked, Pugh or Pugh's body double lay on top of them. The Independent adds that Cumming told People that returning to the role after 23 years was "actually really great" and that most of their scenes were squeezed into a short shoot because of The Traitors.

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, features Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, and is due in cinemas on 18 December. The A.V. Club, which says it has heard the film is still being written, speculates the robots could be Sentinels; this is the outlet's conjecture, not something Cumming said.
