The story, neutrally told

The BBC has announced that Amandaland, the Motherland spin-off, will return with a Christmas special in December 2026. Lucy Punch returns as Amanda, who has moved to South Harlesden after her divorce. In the BBC's synopsis, Amanda drops her quiet Christmas Eve plans after meeting an old school friend and tries to organise a big party within 24 hours.

Daisy Haggard, of Breeders, joins as Millie, Amanda's old friend, and most of the regular cast return. Writer and director Holly Walsh and writer Laurence Rickard said cameras are rolling on the hour-long episode. BBC commissioning editor Seb Barwell said last year's special "proved to be the Christmas tradition we didn’t know we needed".

The BBC says the 2025 special was the UK's most-watched comedy episode of the year, with 7.4 million viewers over 28 days. The first series won best scripted comedy at the 2026 Bafta TV Awards, and a third series has been commissioned. The Daily Mail adds that a first-look photo shows Punch in a Father Christmas-inspired outfit, and that filming of series three is expected to begin early next year.
