The story, neutrally told

Rick Devens won season 28 of Big Brother in Thursday night's finale, taking the jury vote 6-1 over runner-up Taylor Brown. Devens also won the fan-voted America's Favorite Houseguest title, which TVLine puts at an extra $50,000. With the $750,000 grand prize, his total for the season is $810,000. TVLine says that total also includes $10,000 from the Pharaoh's Curse. The runner-up receives $75,000. Devens, Drew Campbell and Taylor Brown were the final three. The finale's Head of Household competition had three parts. Taylor won Part 1 by outlasting Drew and Devens on a spinning log, even though Devens and Drew had a side deal for Devens to throw that part to Drew. Devens won Part 2 against Drew, a slingshot game. He then beat Taylor in Part 3, a quiz on the season, to become the final Head of Household.

Devens chose to evict Drew, which put Taylor in the final two and made Drew the last member of the jury. TVLine reports that Taylor had told Devens the night before that taking Drew to the final two would cost him her jury vote and Lala's. It describes the decision as an emotional one and quotes Devens telling Drew, "This is a total betrayal, and I know that." The jury was LaTrice "Lala" Verrett, Angela Murray, Barrett Pfeiffer, Yash Patel, Melody Morris, Dee Valladares and Drew Campbell. TVLine says Taylor's one vote came from Lala. The Hollywood Reporter calls Devens the first Survivor player to win Big Brother. He appeared on Survivor's Edge of Extinction season and its 50th season. Dee Valladares, a Survivor 45 winner, and Devens were the season's surprise "icons", alongside Big Brother alum Angela Murray.

Host Julie Chen Moonves confirmed at the end of the finale that Big Brother has been renewed for two more seasons, which keeps it on the air through at least season 30. TVLine reports that its reader polls on who would win and who should win both heavily favoured Devens.
