The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said he will publish details of his dealings with Manchester City's owners during his time as Mayor of Greater Manchester, after criticism of his comments on the club's Premier League case. Centre · 2Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch had challenged him to release "everything" connected to his work with the club; the BBC says she demanded No 10 release all details of meetings between the prime minister and senior club figures. Centre · 2Speaking on the Rest is Politics podcast, Burnham said: "I've been asked by the leader of the opposition to publish details of my meetings, which I'm happy to do." He said none of it was recent and that he had held only one significant meeting, in 2021.

Centre · 2The row stems from remarks Burnham made last month, after an independent commission found City guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules between 2009 and 2018. He said he would be "really concerned" if the Abu Dhabi owners sold the club, and called them "a huge partner in the building of modern Manchester". Centre · 3Downing Street then clarified that he regarded the judgment as serious and that wrongdoing should face consequences. Burnham now says he did not misspeak, that his mind had been on Labour conference, and that football issues and investment issues are separate and should not be conflated. Centre · 2The commission found City used "sham" commercial contracts with sponsors to funnel more than £830m into football operations, according to the BBC. The Premier League said the sponsors paid only part of the fees, with the rest funded by entities linked to owner Sheikh Mansour. City deny wrongdoing and have appealed; sanctions are yet to be announced.

Centre · 1BBC Sport reported that some Premier League clubs, "astonished" by Burnham's stance, told it they were "concerned" about political interference in the appeal, which a separate independent appeal board will hear. Centre · 1Shadow sports minister Louie French went further, calling for publication of every contact between ministers, officials and City since Burnham entered Downing Street, and urging Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to answer questions about the government's dealings with the club.

Framing
All three outlets lead with Burnham's pledge to publish his City meetings, presenting it as a response to Badenoch's challenge and criticism of his earlier remarks. The BBC adds sporting context and club concern; the Standard adds opposition demands; the SCMP, carrying dpa copy, is the shortest.
Emphasis
Burnham's separation of football and investment issues, the single 2021 meeting, and the independence of the process.
Leaves out or plays down
The SCMP omits the shadow minister's demands and the club concerns about appeal interference; the Standard omits the £830m figure and Burnham's 'misspoke' remark.
Charged language
