The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2CBS News deleted a social media post about an interview with Angie Nixon, the Democratic candidate for US Senate in Florida, after she said it misrepresented her answer on Cuba. Right · 1Asked in the interview whether she considers Cuba a dictatorship, Nixon replied: "That is what people have told me. I have never been to Cuba, and so I will have to take their word for it." Mixed · 2CBS's original post said she "declined to say"; Nixon called that "a serious failure of editorial reporting" and "misinformation", saying she had spoken with Cubans who described Cuba as a dictatorship and that she believed them.

Mixed · 2CBS replaced the post with a follow-up carrying an editor's note: "A previous version of this post did not accurately portray Rep. Nixon's answer. It has been deleted." Fox News reports that CBS re-uploaded the footage on X and apologized for the misleading language. Left · 1Raw Story reports that Republicans, including Sen. Ashley Moody, had seized on the answer as a dodge before the post was removed. Right · 1Rep. Carlos Gimenez, a Florida Republican whose family fled Cuba, told Fox News Digital he still believes Nixon refused to acknowledge the regime, saying "Cuba is a communist dictatorship" and that Floridians deserve leaders who "stand unequivocally for freedom". Nixon did not respond to his claim or to Fox's request for comment.

Left · 1Democratic critics, including strategist Grant Stern and strategist Matt Royer, criticised CBS, with Royer asking how often the network must correct reporting under editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. Right · 1Fox adds that in the interview Nixon criticised the long-running US embargo on Cuba and backed a return to Obama-era policies, arguing this could ease blackouts and medical shortages.
