The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Chris Brown, 37, arrived at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday 26 October to be sentenced over a bottle attack at a London nightclub. Centre · 1The Evening Standard reported that he was accompanied by security guards and wore a cap, a black leather jacket and a face mask, and that a few fans could be heard cheering as he walked into the building. Centre · 1Brown pleaded guilty to one count of affray at the same court in July, over an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw, whom he hit on the head with a bottle at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023.

Centre · 1AP reported that Brown had at first denied attacking Diaw, but prosecutors said the fight was caught on surveillance camera in front of a club full of people. Centre · 1In return for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped charges of assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and having an offensive weapon, a bottle. Centre · 1Brown's friend and vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu also pleaded guilty to affray and is to be sentenced too.

Centre · 1Affray carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison. Centre · 1Brown left the UK after the brawl and was arrested in May 2025 at a Manchester hotel after flying there for a concert. He was on bail of 5 million pounds ($6.7 million), which let him tour Europe and North America last summer, and was freed on bail again on the Friday before sentencing. Centre · 1AP's background notes that Brown won Grammys for best R&B album in 2011 and 2025, and that he has been in repeated legal trouble since his felony conviction for the 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend Rihanna. It adds that in 2019 he was arrested in Paris and questioned on suspicion of rape, and released without charge.
