The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The number of confirmed Ebola cases in Democratic Republic of Congo has risen above 10,000, government data showed on Tuesday 27 October 2026. Mixed · 2The latest situation report from Congo's public health institute put cases at 10,060 and deaths from the virus at 4,887. Mixed · 2The outbreak, caused by the rare Bundibugyo species of Ebola, was announced in mid-May and has become the largest and deadliest in Congo, surpassing the 2018-2020 epidemic.

Mixed · 2It is now the second-largest and second-deadliest on record, behind only the 2014-2016 West African outbreak, which infected over 28,600 people and killed more than 11,000, mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Mixed · 2Kenya reported its first case earlier this month and went on to announce nine in total, after a man who had travelled from Congo via Uganda died in Nairobi. Mixed · 2Last week Nigeria became the fourth African country to report an Ebola case, that of the wife of a Swiss diplomat who had not travelled to Congo; the Swiss government said she was believed to have contracted it in Uganda, and health officials are still working out how and where she was infected.

Mixed · 2The woman and her husband were flown to hospitals in Switzerland on Monday. Mixed · 2Uganda reported 20 cases in May and June, mostly imported from Congo, and the World Health Organization declared it Ebola-free in August; Ugandan officials say it has no cases now, and its health minister said on Sunday that citizens returning from Congo would be quarantined for 21 days.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
