Opinion pieces link European unrest to alleged left-wing plans in the US

Two opinion pieces, one on Hot Air and one in Newsweek, say violence in Europe is organised by radical left groups and warn the US could see the same. Both are commentary, and neither presents proof of a US plot.

The story, neutrally told

Right · 1A Hot Air opinion post by Beege Welborn, published 26 October, says violence across Europe described as "student protests" is "a calculated effort by highly organized and well-financed extreme left groups to sow anarchy across Western civilization." Right · 1The post turns to the US, saying the Democratic Party is "dominated by the Democratic Socialists of America" and allied with a global movement to destroy capitalism. This is the author's opinion, and the excerpt gives no evidence for it. Right · 1It relies on "DataRepublican," described as a well-known online data analyst who previously worked as a Pentagon analyst. According to the post, DataRepublican cites "thousands of new transcripts and hundreds of recordings" showing the Democratic Socialists of America's plans, and wrote on X that the group is proposing structural reforms including abolishing the Senate and imposing term limits.

Centre · 1A Newsweek opinion piece by Chad Wolf, published 30 October, begins with France. It says that on 17 October more than half a million people marched peacefully, and that by nightfall the town hall in Limoges was "a smoldering shell." It also reports nearly 2,400 arrests, roughly 1,000 police officers and firefighters injured, and at least 3,000 businesses looted or damaged. Centre · 1Wolf writes that French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu told parliament far-left groups had pursued an "insurrectionary plan," with intelligence services indicating networks sought to foment disorder through next year's presidential election. He adds that President Emmanuel Macron blamed far-left activists and that the interior minister admitted authorities "lost control" in major cities. Centre · 1Wolf cites reporting that of 54 organisations involved in the French demonstrations, only 16 were student or youth groups. He raises funding questions about Neville Roy Singham, Tricontinental and BreakThrough News, while conceding these connections "do not definitively prove" the groups directed the violence and that any link should be established through evidence.

Centre · 1Turning to the US, Wolf points to the Sunrise Movement's financial pressure on hotels housing ICE agents and to the 2020 riots as a preview of what could happen. He calls for transparent political financing, law enforcement, protection of peaceful protest and accountability for violence. He frames this within Trump administration rhetoric from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance, and notes the State Department designated four European far-left groups as foreign terrorist organizations in November 2025. Centre · 1Wolf is chair of Homeland Security and Immigration Policy at AFPI and was acting Homeland Security secretary under President Trump. Newsweek notes the views are the writer's own. Neither piece cites an independent investigation showing a coordinated US plot.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
