The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Coronation Street released a video of Kit Green's hair-shaving scene ahead of Monday's episode, on 10 October. Centre · 2Kit, played by Jacob Roberts, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last month and decides to buzz his hair off as he begins chemotherapy, with his son Brody Michaelis helping. Centre · 1In the clip, Kit jokes that Brody is a poor barber for not making idle chit-chat, then says his next trip might be in a coffin; when Brody is upset, he says dying is "not high up on my to-do list".

Centre · 1Asked by Brody whether he is scared, Kit says there is no point in worrying and that he is sorry for what it means for Brody, adding that the only thing he has given him is "set of faulty genes". Brody says he will get tested at 18. Centre · 1Radio Times reported that the episode, which airs at 8.30pm on ITV1, was available early on ITVX, and that Kit had kept his diagnosis to himself for weeks. Centre · 1The storyline began as the Winter family realised they may carry the BRCA gene after the death of their estranged aunt Celeste Butterfield, and Bernie later learned she has the gene.

Centre · 1In the episode, Kit hands Brody his electric razor; at the hospital he bonds with Bernie, and later Brody calls him "dad" for the first time since learning of his paternity and urges him to keep fighting. Kit also realises he must tell Harry, the son of his ex-girlfriend Sarah Platt, who lives in the same house. Centre · 2Roberts said he did not know men could get breast cancer and felt Kit should not know either, and that speaking to charities and male survivors had been insightful. Ryan Mulvey, who plays Brody, told Digital Spy the scene is "really beautiful" and that the pair's walls "haven't really been broken down".
