The story, neutrally told

MixedAnti-migrant activist Daniel Thomas, known as Danny Tommo, appeared in court on Friday 2 October charged over incidents at a migrant processing centre in Dover. MixedThomas, 37, appeared by video link at Margate Magistrates' Court in Kent, wearing a grey T-shirt and rosary beads. MixedDistrict Judge William Nelson sent the case for a further case management hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 4 November.

MixedAccording to court documents, he pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing on 27 August to entering a restricted zone at Western Jet Foil in Dover on 31 March. MixedHe denied using threatening words or behaviour in Dover on 1 April and obstructing a person engaged in a lawful activity on 6 April. MixedHe also pleaded not guilty to entering or remaining in Dover Docks without lawful business or permission on 1 and 6 April.

MixedHe is further accused of racially aggravated harassment, by allegedly using threatening or abusive words within sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress in Dover on 1 April. LeftMetro also reports that Thomas was remanded in custody this week ahead of a trial next year on a separate charge of criminal damage to a boat in the English Channel, which he denies. The allegation is that he slashed a boat with an emergency responder on board on 22 September. LeftMetro says he also denied failing to disclose his phone PIN to police under Section 53 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, and that his barrister described the boat allegation as 'politically charged and fundamentally flawed'.

LeftMetro adds that the maximum sentence for criminal damage valued above £5,000 is 10 years' imprisonment, while damage valued below £5,000 carries a maximum of a fine and three months in jail, according to the Sentencing Council.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split.
