The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Daryz won his second consecutive Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp on Sunday 4 October, beating Bay City Roller. Mixed · 2He is the first colt in 48 years to win back-to-back renewals; the last was Alleged, trained by Vincent O'Brien and ridden by Lester Piggott, in 1977 and 1978. Mixed · 2Daryz, trained by Francis-Henri Graffard and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, was the 7/4 favourite; Bay City Roller, trained by George Scott and ridden by Oisin Murphy, was a 28/1 outsider who hit the front two furlongs out.

Mixed · 2Aidan O'Brien's three-year-old filly Diamond Necklace finished third after a wide draw from stall 16. Right · 1Daryz had also beaten Bay City Roller in the Prix Foy trial, and the two filled the same positions in the Arc. Right · 1Barzalona said it was a tough race that did not go as expected, with a slow pace, but that the horse deserved to win. Graffard said Daryz lost position early and was too far back, but his acceleration made the difference, and that he did not think the horse had anything left to prove.

Centre · 1Scott, Bay City Roller's trainer, said his horse had come second best to an outstanding racehorse on good ground and congratulated connections. Centre · 1CNA reported the double is the first since Enable won in 2017 and 2018, and that it cements the Aga Khan Studs, Daryz's owners, as the Arc's most successful owners. It said Daryz has won three times at Longchamp this year and earned nearly three million pounds, with his one poor run coming when third to Ombudsman in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Ascot. Centre · 1The race carries a five-million-euro prize pot, and CNA noted Scott had earlier scored a career-best double on the meeting's first day with Caballo De Mar in the Prix du Cadran and Wimbledon Hawkeye in the Prix Dollar.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
