The story, neutrally told

Right · 1Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was ejected in the third quarter of Monday's game against the Phoenix Suns after an altercation involving Suns center Khaman Maluach and forward Dillon Brooks. Right · 1Fox News says Green fell to the ground as Maluach tried to establish position in the paint, got straight back up, wrapped his arms around the 7-foot-1 Maluach's waist as he went for a lay-up, and threw him to the floor. Right · 1Brooks rushed over and put a hand on Green to get him to back away, and Green grabbed Brooks by the jersey before being pulled back to the sideline.

Right · 2Green was given two technical fouls and ejected, his first ejection of the season. IJR reports that Brooks also received a technical foul; Fox News does not mention one. Centre · 1Newsweek places the play about two minutes into the third quarter, says a foul was called on Green as Maluach made the layup, and says referees described the move as a "throwdown", which drew one of Green's technicals. Centre · 1Newsweek adds that Brooks got in Green's face, that Green grabbed Brooks' jersey near his neck, which "some described as 'choking'", and that teammates and officials broke up the altercation.

Right · 1Green finished with four points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 17 minutes. Right · 1Golden State trailed 67-57 with 10 minutes left in the period, according to Fox News, but came back to win 116-113. Centre · 1Newsweek says the Warriors outscored Phoenix 42-36 in the third quarter after Green left, and that Golden State, now 5-3, is still waiting for Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody to return.

Right · 1Brooks said he was trying to calm things down, adding that Green had been "tweaking all game". Maluach called it "just a basketball play" and said he had nothing against Green. Right · 1Warriors guard Brandon Podziemski said the incident "fueled" the team, which he said lacked an edge at the start of the game. Centre · 1Stephen Curry, who scored 34 points, said "We know what he brings, and he lit a fire underneath us to respond," and that once Green went out it was on the rest of the team to pick up the slack, adding "By committee, everybody showed up."

Right · 2Fox News says Green, a 15-year veteran, has 179 career technical fouls and 23 ejections, and has three technicals in the Warriors' first eight games. IJR says the incident renewed the long-running on-court tension between Green and Brooks.
