The story, neutrally told

PhRMA, the main lobbying and trade organisation for the US pharmaceutical industry, announced on Tuesday that former Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor will become its president. According to a PhRMA press release cited by Breitbart, its Board of Directors named Cantor the organisation's next president and chief executive officer. He is due to take up the role on November 9.

Board chair Rob Davis said Cantor is well respected among policy leaders and has a record of working across the political spectrum. The release says Cantor served in Congress from 2000 to 2014 and as House Majority Leader from 2011 to 2014. It credits him with leading enactment of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act and with helping build support for the law that created Medicare Part D.

After Congress he was vice chairman and managing director at Moelis & Company. Cantor said he was honoured to join the industry's efforts to expand patient access, use AI to speed discovery and champion its workers.
