The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh said on Wednesday that the Fed will dedicate one of its eight annual meetings next year to a broad discussion of monetary policy strategy rather than deciding the policy rate. Right · 1Warsh said the strategy meeting will include no announcement or decision on interest rates and will produce no post-meeting statement. Mixed · 2He said the number of such meetings is expected to rise to two in 2028.

Centre · 1Anadolu Agency reported that in 2028 the Fed expects two strategy meetings and six rate-setting meetings, and that the 2027 change leaves seven regular rate-setting meetings. Left · 1NBC News reported that the first such meeting would come starting next fall, and that Warsh announced the change after the Fed's latest policy announcement, which left rates unchanged. Left · 1Warsh said the aim is to devote more time to longer-term issues; he said that "it’s equally important we reserve time and space as an intellectually diverse group for strategic deliberations."

Mixed · 2The Federal Open Market Committee has held eight scheduled meetings a year since 1981, and before the press conference many Fed watchers had speculated Warsh might move to six meetings a year. Left · 1According to FOMC minutes cited by NBC, Warsh began seriously discussing fewer rate-setting meetings in July, arguing a longer gap would let the committee gather more data; the idea has long been debated, but was never enacted over fears the Fed would be less nimble. Left · 1NBC added that the change would make the Fed unique among Western central banks, and noted that Warsh, who took over in May after being nominated by President Donald Trump, has also sharply shortened the post-meeting statement and declined to give forward guidance.

Centre · 1Anadolu Agency, which led with Warsh's inflation remarks, said he spoke after the FOMC voted to keep the benchmark rate at 3.75% to 4%, and that he said inflation "is too high" after running above the 2% target for nearly six years, with energy and related prices higher again in recent weeks.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
