The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2The first official images of Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in character as Tubbs and Crockett in Miami Vice '85 were released on 12 October 2026. Mixed · 2Variety and Collider report that the film is now in production, and that it will reach cinemas on May 19, 2028. Left · 1Jordan plays Ricardo Tubbs and Butler plays Sonny Crockett, roles played in the original series by Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson.

Centre · 1Collider describes Tubbs as a hot-tempered New York cop relocated to Florida and Crockett as a houseboat-dwelling loose cannon, and says the costumes in the portraits would not look out of place on the original stars. Left · 1Joseph Kosinski directs, from a script by Dan Gilroy based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich; Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft, and Dylan Clark and Kosinski produce for Universal. Mixed · 2The supporting cast includes John Leguizamo as a cartel leader and Walton Goggins as his right-hand man, with Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, Edi Gathegi, Andrew Schulz, André Holland and Michael Irby.

Mixed · 2Unlike Michael Mann's 2006 film, which moved the story to the then-present day, this reboot is a period piece set in the 1980s, described as exploring "the glamour and corruption of mid-80’s Miami" and inspired by the pilot episode and first season. Centre · 1Screen Rant notes the franchise earned 20 Emmy nominations and 4 wins and calls this the second film reboot, after the 2006 movie. Left · 1Variety adds that Jordan next stars in "The Thomas Crown Affair", which he also directed, and Butler's next film is A24's "Enemies".

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
