The story, neutrally told

A first trailer has been released for Nocturne, an Apple TV crime drama starring Stephen Graham, Liev Schreiber and Zazie Beetz. The series premieres on Apple TV on Friday 30 October. According to the official synopsis, Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who moves from Philadelphia to a small town in Western Pennsylvania.

Graham plays the serial killer Jurek Walter, who attacks the town and Jonah's family; Beetz plays FBI agent Saga Bauer, whom Jonah sends up against Jurek. Radio Times says the trailer shows Jurek appearing to pull the strings of the FBI and of Jonah even while imprisoned. Radio Times reports the 10-part series is based on the novel The Sandman by Lars Kepler, and was developed and co-showrun by John Hlavin and Rowan Joffe.

The supporting cast includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan and Gary Carr. Both outlets place Graham's role in the context of his earlier work in Adolescence, and A.V. Club also compares the series to other Pennsylvania-set crime dramas.
