The story, neutrally told

Right · 2Shallow earthquakes struck an area of southern Turkey near Adana on 4 October 2026, and Turkey's disaster relief agency AFAD said they caused no injuries or damage. Right · 2AFAD said on X that the quakes caused "no adverse situation". Right · 2According to AFAD, the Saimbeyli district of Adana province was hit by quakes of magnitude 4.8 at 2:19 pm, 4.9 at 2:36 pm and 4.4 at 7:00 pm. The later AFP report adds a fourth Saimbeyli quake, of magnitude 4.3 at 8:28 pm.

Right · 2A magnitude 5.2 quake, the strongest reported, hit the Sumbas district at 2:43 pm, about 80 km further south. Right · 1The later AFP version, carried by The Straits Times, says the tremors were also felt in northern Syria. It cites a Telegram statement from Syria's national earthquake centre, which said all five quakes were felt in parts of northern Syria and did not mention injuries or damage. Right · 2The area is about 150 km from the epicentre of the two massive earthquakes of February 2023. The later report says those killed at least 53,000 people in Turkey and around 6,000 in Syria.

Right · 2Both reports note that Turkey is crisscrossed by several geological fault lines that have previously caused catastrophes. Right · 2The two reports differ in detail. Framing
Both outlets run AFP wire copy, a short factual report that leads with the absence of injuries and damage. The wording is the agency's, not the outlets' own framing.
Emphasis
AFAD's reassurance, the quake magnitudes and times, and the distance from the 2023 earthquake epicentre. The Straits Times copy adds the Syrian reaction and the 2023 death tolls for both countries.
Leaves out or plays down
The earlier Arab News copy omits the second evening quake and the Syrian dimension. Neither report gives depths or Turkish government comment beyond AFAD.
