The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Freddy Brazier, 22, has said he took money from the budget given to him and his father Jeff Brazier on the BBC show Celebrity Race Across the World to buy cannabis while filming in Brazil in 2024. Mixed · 2He made the comments on The Terry Stone Connection podcast, saying the show came "at a bad time" and that he "almost forced myself to do it" because he was not in the right place mentally. Mixed · 2Freddy said that, knowing the pair would be filmed on Mother's Day, he did not want cameras on him; after a day that included swimming in the sea and watching the sunset with his father, he climbed out of the hotel window that night.

Left · 1He said he went to a beach, where two bracelet-makers the pair had seen before bought him a beer, and bought "a three five" of cannabis with money from the budget, which he smoked with them; the Independent glosses this as 3.5 grams. Mixed · 2Freddy called it "beautiful" but "so wrong" and "very selfish", saying it could have cost them the show, though he also said he felt he needed the joint or he would have been kicked off the show anyway because of his headspace. Mixed · 2He also said he smoked cannabis in Birmingham the night before the show's "master interviews" after promising his father he would not arrive high, then lied and turned up without sleep.

Left · 1The Independent reports that the pair travelled 12,500km from Brazil to Chile and finished third; it also says Freddy told the podcast he was sectioned at 17 after a "drug-induced psychosis" and was later diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. Right · 1Freddy is the son of Big Brother winner Jade Goody, who died of cervical cancer in 2009 when he was four. In 2025 he said his grandmother Jackiey Budden got him "hooked" on cannabis from age 12, announced he was going to rehab in Spain, then said days later he did not need it. Right · 1In a second Daily Mail article from the same podcast, Freddy said his relationship with Budden has been "tough" mentally and that he believes he would not be where he is without her influence, but that "no one's to blame other than myself".

Right · 1Jeff Brazier had earlier tried to use court paperwork to stop Freddy seeing Budden, fearing she was a bad influence, then dropped the action; Budden has said that as long as Freddy smokes with her he is safe. Mixed · 2The Daily Mail said it had contacted representatives for Freddy and for Race Across The World, and the Independent said it had contacted the BBC; no response is reported in either article.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
