The story, neutrally told

Gardaí have issued a renewed appeal for information on the murder of Dessie Fox, marking 36 years since his death. Fox, an on-course bookmaker from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, was fatally shot at Healy's Bridge, Prosperous, Co Kildare, on 30 September 1990 while travelling to a race meeting at the Curragh. A red car, believed to be a Toyota Carina with a false registration, followed him; its occupants fired on his Mercedes, and a single handgun round fired through the open passenger door hit him in both legs.

A briefcase containing cash, a Motorola car phone and other items were stolen from the scene. The Carina was found abandoned in Blanchardstown, Dublin, on 1 October 1990, and a grey Mitsubishi Gallant was seen travelling in convoy with it. Seventeen people were arrested and questioned shortly after the killing and two more suspects in May 2018; the investigation continues.

Gardaí believe people may still hold vital information, including about the planning of the robbery, and say all information will be treated in strict confidence; they ask people to contact Naas Garda station.
