The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Getty Images said on Monday 12 October 2026 that its major creditors and investors had agreed to support a plan to reduce its debt, raise fresh money and take the company private. Mixed · 2Affiliates of the Getty family and Koch Equity Development, the investment arm linked to Charles Koch, have committed up to $533 million in new equity under the restructuring support agreement. Centre · 1Once the restructuring is complete, affiliates of the Getty family and Koch Equity Development will own 100% of the company, according to Hindustan Times, citing Reuters.

Centre · 1Holders of $270 million in unsecured bonds have agreed to retire their notes, and secured lenders have agreed to lower interest costs and extend the time to repay. Mixed · 2The company plans an expedited, prepackaged Chapter 11 process involving certain US entities and expects to finish by the end of 2026; it says operations, employees, partners and vendors will not be affected. Mixed · 2The move follows the abandonment in late June of a planned $3.7 billion merger with Shutterstock; Hindustan Times says the UK Competition and Markets Authority had required Shutterstock to sell its editorial business, and The Hollywood Reporter cites a regulatory roadblock.

Left · 1In an investor presentation, Getty said its iStock eCommerce business has seen "declining agency demand and disruption", which The Hollywood Reporter attributes presumably to AI image tools, while it forecasts its editorial unit growing from $369 million to $400 million by 2029. Left · 1CFO Jennifer Leyden said in August that annual subscribers fell from 321,000 to 241,000, which she attributed to a deliberate de-emphasis of lower-value acquisition channels, including ending the iStock free trial. Left · 1Chairman Mark Getty called the deal "transformational", and Koch Equity's Mike Harris said it gives the company a firm financial foundation.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
