The story, neutrally told

Right · 2The Israel Defense Forces announced on Thursday 8 October that it had killed Muhammad Yazji, a commander in Hamas's Shati Battalion, in an airstrike in the Gaza City area on Monday 5 October. Right · 2The military said Yazji had been involved throughout the war in holding Israeli hostages in the Gaza City Brigade's area of operations, including Emily Damari, Romi Gonen and Matan Angrest, all of whom were later released. Right · 2JNS noted that the IDF did not specify when or for how long Yazji was involved in holding each of the three, or whether he personally guarded them; the Jerusalem Post's wording says more directly that he "held" them.

Right · 2In a separate airstrike on Tuesday 6 October, Israeli forces killed Muhammad Gamal, who fought in Hamas's Daraj-Tuffah Battalion, in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City. Right · 1The IDF said both men had recently advanced plans to attack Israeli troops and civilians and were working to rebuild Hamas's operational capabilities in violation of the ceasefire agreement, and that it used precision munitions and aerial surveillance to minimize civilian casualties. Right · 1Damari was abducted from Kibbutz Kfar Aza on 7 October 2023 and Gonen from the Nova music festival; both were released on 19 January 2025 after 471 days. Angrest, a soldier taken from his tank near Nahal Oz, was released on 13 October 2025.

Right · 1The IDF said its troops under Southern Command remain in the Gaza Strip in line with the ceasefire agreement and will keep acting against immediate threats. The claims about the two men's plans come from the military, and the coverage cites no independent confirmation or Hamas response.

Framing
Both Israeli right-leaning outlets relay the IDF announcement as a successful targeting of a Hamas figure tied to the captivity of named hostages, using the IDF's account of the targets' plans.
Emphasis
The named former hostages, Yazji's rank and battalion, and the IDF's claim that the men were rebuilding Hamas in violation of the ceasefire. JNS adds hostage backgrounds and IDF precautions.
Leaves out or plays down
No Hamas response, Palestinian or independent account, or civilian casualty figures; the claims rest on the IDF alone. The Jerusalem Post does not mention the IDF's caveat on Yazji's role.
Charged language

For example
“A terrorist in Hamas’s Daraj-Tuffah Battalion was killed in a separate strike in Gaza City.” — JNS
