The story, neutrally told

On Thursday 1 October, President Prabowo Subianto named career diplomat Arrmanatha Nasir as Indonesia's foreign minister. Sugiono, the outgoing foreign minister, becomes coordinating minister for human development and culture. CNA calls it Prabowo's biggest reshuffle to date; it names Golkar politician Muhammad Sarmuji industry minister, replacing Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

Other changes include Dudung Abdurachman as coordinating minister for political and security affairs, and Bahlil Lahadalia as coordinating minister for downstreaming and energy transition while remaining energy minister. Suyudi Ario Seto replaced Listyo Sigit Prabowo as police chief; CNA says Listyo now heads the Executive Office of the President, while Anadolu calls the post presidential chief of staff. The changes follow Prabowo's 14 September sacking of finance minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who was replaced by his deputy Suahasil Nazara.

Reuters says investors welcomed the finance change as a move that could help restore confidence after months of uncertain policymaking. Reuters reports analysts said Sugiono's ministry had been sidelined as Prabowo took a more dominant foreign policy role, and that Nasir's appointment is expected to mark a shake-up there. Sugiono, a Gerindra politician rather than a diplomat, oversaw Indonesia's entry into Brics and its joining of the Board of Peace for Gaza.

Anadolu says Nasir, 54, joined the diplomatic service in 1997 and has been Indonesia's permanent representative to the UN.
