The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1The Iranian Navy said an oil tanker caught fire and was immobilised after striking naval mines in a restricted area east of the Strait of Hormuz before noon on Thursday 29 October 2026. Centre · 1The navy statement, carried by Tasnim News Agency, did not give the vessel's name, flag or crew size, and said the strait remains closed to vessels trying to cross restricted and unsafe areas without prior coordination. Left · 1Separately, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said three tankers had exploded and caught fire over the past 24 hours after hitting mines on what it called the unauthorised southern route; AFP reported that Iran's armed forces put the total at at least four tankers.

Left · 1The IRGC said the vessels had switched off their radar and navigation systems and ignored warnings from its navy; AFP said it was unclear when the incidents happened or which flags the ships flew. Left · 1The British maritime agency UKMTO said earlier that it had received a report of a ship on fire in the strait, without giving a cause or casualty details, and it was not clear whether this was one of the ships Iran referred to. Left · 1The claims follow a statement by the US military a day earlier that it had cleared key routes; US Central Command (CENTCOM) has repeatedly said all mines in "primary transit routes" are cleared, while IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi challenged it to prove the claim with independent evidence.

Centre · 1The Iranian Navy statement also accused US President Donald Trump of making misleading claims about passage through the waterway. Left · 1In a separate statement the IRGC said it had captured a US MQM-170 reconnaissance drone in the western strait. Mixed · 2Background: since the US and Israel attacked Iran on 28 February, Iran has severely restricted traffic through the strait, which normally carries about a fifth of global oil and gas consumption, and the US has blockaded Iranian ports and helped tankers transit; a Pakistan-mediated memorandum signed on 18 June has not ended the disputes over navigation.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Framing
Carries AFP's wire report, which leads with Iran's claim of four burning tankers and sets it against the US claim that routes were cleared.
Emphasis
The dispute between the IRGC and CENTCOM over mine clearance, plus the drone capture.
Leaves out or plays down
Does not carry the Navy's accusation against Trump.

“Prove your Hormuz mine-clearing claim with independent evidence, not statements!” — The Hindu

Centre1 outlet

Framing
Short report of the Iranian Navy statement on one tanker, attributed throughout to Iranian sources.
Emphasis
The navy's closure warning and its accusation against Trump; the war background.
Leaves out or plays down
Does not mention the IRGC's other three tankers, the UKMTO report or the US clearance claim.
For example
“The navy warned that unauthorized navigation through high-risk areas seriously threatens the safety of vessels and their crews.” — Anadolu Agency
