The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Jac Schaeffer is developing a new Stargate TV series for Amazon MGM Studios, Variety reported exclusively, citing sources. Left · 1According to Variety's sources, the project falls under Schaeffer's overall deal with Amazon MGM, announced earlier this year, and a writers' room is expected to open in the near future. Centre · 1Collider adds that the series is the first project under that deal.

Left · 1Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures will executive produce alongside Schaeffer. Representatives for Amazon and Schaeffer declined to comment. Mixed · 2This is Amazon's second attempt at a new Stargate series. Martin Gero, a veteran of earlier Stargate shows, had been reported to be working on a revival that did not go forward; Collider says it was cancelled earlier this year, reportedly for being too focused on the existing fanbase, and that a fan pressure campaign on social media has followed. Centre · 1Radio Times reports that Martin Gero's project was announced in November 2025; consulting producers Joseph Mallozzi and Brad Wright reacted to its cancellation, Mallozzi saying he was "heartbroken", and a fan petition against the decision stood at almost 125,000 signatures.

Left · 1The A.V. Club says the Gero effort fell apart after four years of development and suggests he may have been too steeped in Stargate lore; it describes the fan campaign as including a Change.org petition with 100,000 signatures, billboards, banner-carrying planes and a rally in Culver City, with a New York City rally also planned, according to SaveStargate founder James Kerfoot. Mixed · 2Schaeffer created WandaVision for Marvel Studios and Disney+, which earned 23 Primetime Emmy nominations, and its spinoff Agatha All Along, on which she was showrunner, writer and executive producer. Collider notes she is an executive producer on VisionQuest, due to premiere next week, with Terry Matalas as showrunner. Mixed · 2The outlets differ on Schaeffer's link to VisionQuest: Collider says she executive produces it, while The A.V. Club says she did not work on it.

Mixed · 2Stargate began as a 1994 film and spawned Stargate SG-1, which ran 10 seasons, followed by spinoffs including Stargate Atlantis; the franchise has been largely dormant since Stargate Universe was cancelled in 2011, according to Collider.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
