The story, neutrally told

Left · 2Jennifer Lawrence said she would not want to play X-Men's Mystique again, answering "Never say never, but absolutely fucking not" when Allure asked if she would consider heavy prosthetic work like Mystique's. Left · 2Lawrence played Mystique four times on screen between 2011 and 2019, according to Variety. The A.V. Club also says she appeared in four X-Men films. Centre · 1Collider adds that Lawrence's blue-skinned appearance was gradually reduced with each instalment, that Mystique was killed off in her final appearance in "Dark Phoenix", and that she also played the character in "Days of Future Past" and "Apocalypse".

Left · 2She said her favourite part of the role was the stunts, which she found fun to train for. She worked with stunt double Renee Moneymaker, who had also doubled for her as Katniss and whom she called one of her best friends. Left · 2Her least favourite part was the paint. She said airbrushing is very cold and she is ticklish. She also said the work taught her how little sleep she can operate on and what happens to the mind at a breaking point, and that it taught her patience. Left · 2On the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Lawrence said the makeup for "X-Men: First Class", her debut as Mystique, was body paint and glue and took eight hours each time. Variety reports she likened it to having two tiny, cold airbrushes compressing all over her body.

Left · 1Variety adds that for her Mystique screen test she dyed her hair several colours in one day, from red to brown, black and blonde, and that the dye permanently damaged her hair. Left · 1The A.V. Club ties the interviews to Lawrence's brief return to the Hunger Games franchise in "Sunrise On The Reaping". It says her stance could complicate any hope that Marvel's push to bring X-Men characters back would include the "First Class" cast. It notes that Rebecca Romijn has agreed to return for "Avengers: Doomsday" in December. Centre · 1Collider notes that Marvel Studios is rebooting the X-Men film franchise and that, while the central cast has been announced, there is no word on who will play Mystique. It also says Rebecca Romijn, who played the character in the original trilogy, will return in "Avengers: Doomsday".
