The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2CBS has confirmed that Jensen Ackles will return as Russell Shaw, older brother of Colter Shaw, in Tracker season 4, episode 5, which is due on 1 November. Centre · 1CBS's official synopsis says that after a military contractor's wife and daughter are kidnapped, Colter discovers Russell is investigating a related lead, and the brothers join forces to uncover a high-stakes cover-up. Centre · 2Ackles is not a series regular. Collider says he has appeared in only a few episodes across three seasons of the CBS series, which stars Justin Hartley.

Centre · 1Screen Rant recalls that season 3 ended with the resolution of Ashton Shaw's murder, but that McIntyre then essentially blackmailed Russell into a job over secret information about Colter's history with their father. It reads the new synopsis as suggesting the episode will focus on the case of the week rather than properly address that secret, though it says this is its own reading. Centre · 1Screen Rant says it is unclear whether Ackles will appear beyond this season 4 episode. Centre · 1Collider places the return in the context of Ackles' other work. He plays Soldier Boy in The Boys and is set to star in the spin-off Vought Rising on Prime Video in 2027, and the Prime Video series Countdown, which he led, was canceled after one season.

Centre · 1Collider also notes that, following a CBS deal with Netflix, Tracker episodes will reach Netflix in February 2027. Until then, new episodes stream on Paramount Plus the day after they air on CBS.

Emphasis
Collider stresses the 1 November date, Ackles' other projects and where to watch. Screen Rant stresses the unresolved Shaw family secret and whether his appearances should be limited.
Leaves out or plays down
Collider gives little on the episode's plot beyond the lede. Screen Rant gives no streaming details and says little of Ackles' other roles.
