The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Other Mommy, a horror film starring Jessica Chastain, was pulled from more than 500 US theaters in its third weekend while approaching $100 million at the global box office. Centre · 2Screen Rant, citing Box Office Mojo, says the film opened in 3,365 theaters on October 9, added five more in its second weekend, and lost 572 in its third; Collider puts the reduction at roughly 3,300 to roughly 2,800 theaters. Centre · 2Both outlets report about $95 million worldwide against a budget of under $20 million (Screen Rant: $18–19 million). Screen Rant gives a breakdown of $51.9 million domestic and $43.3 million international at the time of writing; Collider says about $50 million domestic.

Centre · 1Collider says the film opened to $27 million and kept a top-10 spot over the weekend, when DC's Clayface debuted at number one with $24 million. Centre · 2Reviews were poor: the film holds 20% on Rotten Tomatoes per Collider (19% per Screen Rant), with a consensus that Chastain's turn as a smothering parent is undercut by silliness and uneven jump scares. Screen Rant adds a 48% audience score. Centre · 1Rob Savage directed from a script by Nathan Elston, based on Josh Malerman's novel Incidents Around the House (2024). Chastain plays a mother protecting her daughter, played by Arabella Olivia Clark, from a supernatural entity that looks and sounds like her.

Centre · 1Collider says the film has already passed Savage's earlier The Boogeyman (over $80 million worldwide) but will probably not match the $148 million lifetime gross of Chastain's Mama (2013), and expects a larger audience on premium video on demand. It says the film has out-grossed 2026 horror releases including Evil Dead Burn, Lee Cronin's The Mummy and Send Help.
