The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2JioHotstar, India's largest streamer, has expanded into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through a partnership with Abu Dhabi-based Starzplay, announced on Tuesday 6 October. Mixed · 2It follows earlier launches in the U.K., Canada and Singapore, but unlike those, where TechCrunch says JioHotstar replaced Hotstar and debuted as a stand-alone service in September, in MENA it is offered as a dedicated hub inside Starzplay. Mixed · 2New JioHotstar originals will be available in the region at the same time as in India, with audio in up to 10 languages. The catalogue includes Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Bangla titles, plus reality formats such as "Bigg Boss" and "Koffee With Karan", with particular depth in Malayalam because of the region's large Kerala-origin audience.

Mixed · 2JioHotstar content is included in Starzplay's Plus plan at AED34.99 (about $9.50) a month. The Max plan, at AED49.99 (about $13.60) a month, adds Starzplay's sports rights, including cricket. JioHotstar's own Indian sports offering will not be available in MENA. Mixed · 2Amit Malhotra, head of international business at JioStar, called MENA "a crucial next market" with one of the world's largest South Asian diaspora communities. Starzplay CEO Maaz Sheikh described the deal as "a strategic investment" and said cricket had given Starzplay a lasting connection with South Asian viewers. Mixed · 2Starzplay, which operates across MENA and Pakistan, has 2.3 million subscribers; evision, a unit of e& Group, heads its investors, which also include ADQ, Lionsgate, GE and SEQ. JioHotstar claims 500 million monthly active users.

Centre · 1TechCrunch adds context: JioHotstar was formed when Reliance and Disney merged their Indian media businesses into an $8.5 billion joint venture in 2024, and Hotstar was previously available in MENA through Disney Star's distribution deal with evision. Financial terms of the Starzplay partnership were not disclosed. Left · 1To mark the launch, JioHotstar's "Big Bang" visual was projected onto Dubai's Burj Khalifa, and JioHotstar says it builds its presence in each overseas territory through whichever model suits local audiences.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
