The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Spain's Jon Rahm will play the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship for the first time, at Yas Links from 5 to 8 November. Centre · 1Gulf News describes the event as the opening leg of the DP World Tour Play-Offs. The leading 70 available players in the Race to Dubai rankings compete, and the top 50 advance to the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week. Centre · 1Rahm has won the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates three times, in 2017, 2019 and 2022. Gulf News adds that he has won the Irish Open twice and has five Rolex Series titles.

Centre · 2Rahm said he had enjoyed some of his best weeks in the UAE and had "heard great things about Yas Links". Centre · 2The field includes defending champion Aaron Rai and Rory McIlroy, who is chasing a record eighth Race to Dubai title. The National also names Patrick Reed, who is competing with McIlroy for the Race to Dubai. Centre · 1The National reports that Rahm is in the process of leaving LIV Golf, which it says is to be restructured after losing Saudi Arabian funding. According to the paper, players who sign for LIV next season cannot be European Tour members in 2027, and Rahm has signalled he will not be part of the new series.

Centre · 1In May, Rahm agreed with the DP World Tour to keep his membership and stay available for the Ryder Cup. The agreement required him to play certain DP World Tour events, which is why he is in the Abu Dhabi and Dubai play-off finals. His 2027 schedule is unclear. Centre · 1Rahm is 46th in the Race to Dubai. The National says a top-10 finish would normally earn PGA Tour cards, but he would not yet be eligible for a PGA Tour return. Centre · 1Gulf News also gives ticket details: general admission is free for the first two days, and tickets for the last two days start at AED 75.
