The story, neutrally told

Left · 2On Monday's episode of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart mocked President Donald Trump's closing message ahead of the midterm elections, which are due next Tuesday. Left · 1The Independent reports that at at least four rallies this month Trump remarked on the physique of Ohio Senator John Husted, saying in Kentucky: "I examined his a**". Left · 1At an October 25 rally in Michigan attended by the rapper Nicki Minaj, who has called herself the president's "number one fan", Trump said that Minaj had "one hell of a beautiful a**".

Left · 1Stewart opened by saying voters were "for some reason fixated on the economy, cost of living, the war in Iran", then ran a montage of Trump discussing behinds; after a clip of Trump saying "His a** was like a big piece of muscle", Stewart replied that it "is literally a big piece of muscle. That is what an a** is." Left · 2After the Minaj clip, Stewart stared at the camera and asked "How the f*** is this real?", and said Trump looked "transfixed" while Minaj spoke, "like Yogi Bear floating towards a pie on a windowsill." Left · 1The A.V. Club says the segment covered more than this: Stewart also took aim at Trump's remarks that the Iran war has made oil companies "trillions of dollars", Trump's attacks on Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, and an ad backed by Trump and Vivek Ramaswamy against Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton.

Left · 1It adds that Stewart played a clip of Trump saying that if Republicans lose, Camp Lejeune veterans with cancer from contaminated water would not receive their settlement money, and closed by urging viewers to vote. Left · 1The Independent says it contacted the White House for comment; it reports no reply. It notes Trump has previously called Stewart "overrated" and a "total phony". Left · 1The Independent adds that polls indicate Republicans are poised for steep losses, amid voter frustration over the cost of living and the Iran war, now in its seventh month; some polls suggest the GOP could lose its majorities in both chambers.

Emphasis
The Independent quotes Trump's rally remarks and Stewart's jokes in detail and adds polling context. The A.V. Club covers the whole segment: oil profits, Islamophobia, the Acton ad and veterans' settlements.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither carries a White House or Trump response; The Independent says it asked for comment. Neither includes a Republican perspective.
Charged language
“savage takedown”“cartoonish supervillainy”“Trump’s Iran war boondoggle”“reckless shitshow”
For example
“Jon Stewart zeroes in on Trump’s ‘big butts’ fixation -and does not lie - in savage takedown” — The Independent
“Stewart accurately described Trump’s focus during Minaj’s rally speech.” — The A.V. Club
