The story, neutrally told

Karan Johar has said the ninth season of his celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan will be its last. The show has run eight seasons and 161 episodes over 22 years. Johar said he wants to spend the next decade directing more films and called the decision "emotional and personal".

Alok Jain of JioStar praised the show's legacy and said JioHotstar was delighted to bring the final chapter to audiences. The show premiered on Star World in 2004 with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as its first guests, and ran six seasons there until 2019 before moving to streaming. A 2019 season six episode with cricketers Hardik Pandya and K.L. Rahul was pulled over remarks about women.

In 2022 Johar posted a statement suggesting the show was over, then said it was moving to streaming; Gulf News notes he says this time it is final. Gulf News adds that Salman Khan will reportedly open the final season as a solo guest, and that an eighth film is reportedly in the works, which Johar has not officially commented on.
