The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Michael Douglas wrote in an excerpt from his memoir "One Helluva Ride" that he and Kathleen Turner began a romantic relationship during the production of the 1984 film "Romancing the Stone". Mixed · 2The excerpt was shared with People. Douglas wrote that "during the production of Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship", and that it "wasn’t a fly-by night affair". Mixed · 2Douglas said he and his then-wife, Diandra Douglas, were separated and both having extramarital affairs, and that he left home to film "still technically married, but separated".

Left · 1He wrote that the pair had publicly denied a relationship through "Romancing the Stone", its sequel "Jewel of the Nile", "War of the Roses" and press for "The Kominsky Method". The official line was that they had chemistry and were tempted but nothing happened, which he called "a lie". Mixed · 2Douglas said they kept the affair secret for 40 years to protect his wife and their son, Cameron, and that director Bob Zemeckis and co-star Danny DeVito were unaware of it. Left · 1According to Douglas, Diandra grew suspicious and, during a visit to the set, told Turner that the couple were still married. He wrote that Turner had pause and did not want to interfere, and that after the visit they ended the relationship and he went back to Diandra.

Mixed · 2Turner responded in a statement to People on Friday: "Good heavens what a fuss about something 40 years ago! I love Michael and I look forward to enjoying the book." Right · 1Fox News adds that Diandra filed for divorce in 1995 and it was finalised in 2000 after 23 years of marriage, with Douglas writing that after the first split "it was never the same between us ever again". He married Catherine Zeta-Jones in November 2000.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
