The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Kelsey Grammer is set to star in and executive produce Pops, a drama that has entered development at NBC, Deadline reported in an exclusive. Centre · 2The report comes 22 years after Frasier ended, and it would bring Grammer back to NBC. Centre · 2Pops is written by Danny Weiss, a longtime Chicago Med writer-producer.

Centre · 1Grammer plays the title character, a man who has aged out of a successful career and, needing a fresh start, joins the chaotic world of emergency medicine alongside first responders half his age. Centre · 1The project is based on Ed Levien, a Maryland resident who became a volunteer EMT in his 60s after a career in advertising. His younger co-workers nicknamed him "Pops"; he served 12 years as an EMT and returned last fall at age 76. Centre · 1Weiss and Levien executive produce alongside Grammer and Jordan McMahon, through Grammer's Grammnet NH Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment, with Universal Television as the studio.

Centre · 1Deadline compares the show to ABC's The Rookie, also based on a real person changing careers midlife, and to CBS's Carol's Second Act, which starred Patricia Heaton, Grammer's co-lead in Back To Your. Centre · 1At NBC, Grammer would be reunited with Frasier co-star David Hyde Pierce, who is starring in a multi-camera comedy in development. Grammer is also due to appear in the film Avengers: Doomsday in December. Centre · 2Pops is only in development, so it has not been ordered to series.
