The story, neutrally told

Left · 1Kenya has recorded its third case of Bundibugyo virus disease, a strain of Ebola, 10 days after reporting its first case and death in Nairobi. Left · 1The Health Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the patient is a 65-year-old woman who was a "primary contact and a close relative of the first and second cases" and has been in quarantine since October 6. Left · 1The ministry said she developed fever, sore throat and malaise, was isolated, and tested positive. It said she was diagnosed early and is receiving supportive care, which improves her chances of recovery.

Centre · 1France 24 described the new case as a relative of a man who died earlier this month after travelling from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Left · 1According to Al Jazeera, the first case was a Kenyan man who had been ill in the DRC about a month before travelling by road to Uganda. He flew to Nairobi on October 3, a relative drove him to hospital, and he died on October 5. Left · 1The Health Ministry said on X that there is no community spread and that the risk to the Kenyan public remains low. It said 127 of 130 listed contacts had been traced and were in quarantine.

Left · 1Kenya's cases are linked to the DRC epidemic, described as the second-largest on record, with more than 9,000 cases and over 4,300 deaths since it was officially detected in May. Control efforts are complicated because the Bundibugyo strain has no licensed vaccine, though some candidate vaccines are in early human trials. Left · 1Separately, Africa CDC said financial information from aid organisations indicated that more than $700m of donor money was unaccounted for. Its director general, Dr Jean Kaseya, said it was too early to speak of embezzlement, and Congolese Health Minister Samuel Roger Kamba warned aid groups to disclose funding details or risk being barred. Left · 1Two health officials told Reuters that cases were also detected in North Ubangi, an eighth Congolese province affected, bordering the Central African Republic. Congolese authorities have not yet officially announced this.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
