The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2On Monday 26 October, Kenya released from quarantine the first group of people who had been in contact with its index Ebola patient, a step Reuters described as a milestone in efforts to contain cases to a single infection cluster. Mixed · 2The 20 people released completed 21 days of monitoring without developing Ebola symptoms and are in good health, according to Patrick Amoth, director-general in Kenya's health ministry, in a statement. Mixed · 2Kenya has reported nine Ebola cases so far, two of whom have died, and Amoth said the remaining seven patients are stable and receiving treatment.

Mixed · 2Another 98 people still in quarantine are due to be released in four waves beginning on November 3. Mixed · 2Kenya's first case died in a hospital in Nairobi on October 5, after which eight others fell ill while in quarantine; a second death was announced on Friday. Mixed · 2Amoth called the release "a milestone worth celebrating" but "also a reminder that the work is not yet done", said those leaving quarantine pose no risk to their families or communities, and urged Kenyans to welcome them home while saying "We cannot afford to drop our vigilance."

Mixed · 2The outbreak spread to Kenya from Congo, where it was declared in mid-May, and that spread has raised concerns about lapses in border screening. Mixed · 2Nigeria has said its first Ebola case in more than a decade, reported last week, appears closely related to Kenya's index case based on genomic analysis; both people flew out of Uganda's Entebbe airport on the same day in early October.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
